“Choosing a chair that fits the size of the space is important to give a proportionate feel,” says Mecham. “In a small apartment, a smaller accent chair with a small ottoman or pouf would probably fit the space best, while a larger home could have more space to add a chaise since it is longer and takes up more room,” says Mecham. Also consider how you want to use the chair—if you plan to nap in it often, for instance, you might want a larger chaise that will allow your legs to be “fully supported.”
